Martin has signed a proclamation (copy
enclosed) designating the week of September 20-26, 1987 as
Emergency Medical Services Week in North Carolina. This
designation will serve to enhance public awareness of emergency
medical services and will afford EMS providers a special time
to encourage the public to learn more about the EMS resources
in their local co~uunity--resources that can help save a life.

The largest portion of public education must take place at the
local level. Enclosed is a list of activities that have taken
place during previous EMS Weeks that may be helpful to your
organization in planning an event.

Stephen A. Acai, Jr., Assistant Chief-Transportation and Public
Education~ will be coordinating activities for this observance
and you should feel free to contact Steve at 919/733-2285 for
assistance. We would appreciate hearing about your EMS Week
and receiving materials developed at the local level.

Your participation will help make this year's EMS Week a great
success.

BWB:ssg

Enclosures
