Ten fire ~" <br /> departments were visited st their unit meetings to promote <br /> cooperation and mutual understandiug. <br /> <br /> County. Ranger Robert Ward worked with Fir. Hugh Prices of the <br /> SCS Office~ co locate areas in the county that would be considered <br /> marginal land. Tracts in this classification are areas with high <br /> erosion potential that should be converted to woodlots or perma- <br /> nent grassland. <br /> <br /> Assistant County Ranger Bary Hoggard attended a meeting with <br /> Agriculture Workers Group~ which is an organization to promote <br /> better understanding among the various agencies with agricultural <br /> responsibilities. <br /> <br /> The Agri-business Committee is responsible for promoting agri- <br /> culture and the related industries in Cabarrus County. County <br /> Ranger Ward is serving as representative from the Forest Service. <br /> In addition to the overall commlttee~ the County Ranger is serving <br /> on several sub-committees relating to forestry and agriculture. <br /> <br /> At the annual Rotary Club luncheon to honor the Farmer of the Year, <br /> the County Ranger represented the Forest Service. <br /> <br />'TRAINING <br /> <br /> The County Ranger'attended the three-day Region 3 Fire School at <br /> the Crossuore Training Facility. This school provided the County <br /> Ranger additional training in the Incident Command System. Train- <br /> ing was provided for the County Ranger at the Nooresville Regional <br /> Office of the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and <br /> Community Development on the new WPPR Employee Rating System to <br /> be used by state agencies. Both Rangers attended a training <br /> meeting at the Horganton Nursery. on tree planting and seedling <br /> handling conducted by the nursery staff. <br /> <br /> Training was provided to two volunteer fire departments, ~idland <br /> VFD and Harrisburg VFD, on woods fire control and coordination <br /> and use of available equipment. Films and a slide presentation <br /> ~ere used in addition to lectures. Both Rangers participated in <br /> the training session at Harrisburg VFD, and the Assistant County <br /> Ranger presented the training program to ~idland VFD <br /> <br /> <br />
