C. General Assembly has revised the S~atute
relating to per diem and subsistence for County Social Service Board members.
Senate Bill 203, Section 3 revised GS 108A-8 to read: '~embers of the county
board of social service may receive a per diem in such amount as shall be
established by the county board of com~issioners. Reimbursement for subsistence
and travel shall be in accordance with a policy set by the county board of
commissioners." The Board of County Commissioners will thus need to set a
policy relative to reimbursement of the Social Service Board for per diem,
travel and subsistence.

Provisions of the Statute as it previously read are outlined in the
attached, now obsolete page from our State Fiscal Hanual. This had not been
updated for some time.

Up until now, we have been providing a per diem of $15.00 per day for
meetings plus reimbursement for travel and subsistence in accordance with the
established County Travel Policy.

The Social Services Board discussed this matter at its meeting of October
21, 1985. The Social Serx, ices Board requested that I communicate to you its
reeommendation that the ~oard of Commissioners establish a policy providing for
a per diem of $25.00 per day for meetings and reimbursement for travel and
subsistence in accordance with the established County Travel Policy.

Thank you.
