Revised 1/84 <br /> <br /> PROPOSED CABARRUS COUNTY WATER sYsTEM <br /> <br /> WHAT'S BEING PROPOSED <br /> <br /> The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners is proposing to construct Phase 1 water <br /> facilities of the Cabarrus County Water System. This first phase will serve seven <br /> separate areas, Proposed water lines are shown on the attached maps by area· <br /> <br /> WHERE IS THE WATER COMING FROM <br /> <br /> The county presently has a bulk water purchase agreement with the Concord Board of <br /> Water and Light for at least 1,O00,O00 gallons of water per day (MGD). (This is <br /> sufficient to serve approximately 5,000 customers or 12,500 people) Concord pre- <br /> sently has treatment capacity of approximately 10 MGD with an average daily demand <br /> of about 5 to 6 MGD. <br /> <br /> WHO IS GOING TO OWN/OPERATE THE SYSTEM <br /> <br /> The Board of Commissioners have voted to establish a County Water and Sewer District <br /> to provide water in the seven service areas. Cabarrus County will maintain, own <br /> and operate all water facilities in these seven areas. <br /> <br /> WHEN WILL THE SYSTEM BE DEVELOPED <br /> <br /> Tentatively construction would begin in the later part of 1984 and would be completed <br /> in the later part of 1985. <br /> <br /> WHATS ALL THIS GOING TD COST <br /> <br /> The total cost of the proposed first phase of the Cabarrus County Water System is <br /> $11,060,000. A breakdown of expenditures and customers served is in a project <br /> cost summary. Cabarrus County has received a loan/grant from the Farmer's Home <br /> Administration and a state grant to defray the major portion of this expense.
