Approximate <br />acres involved - 2,039. Total approximate acres marked for thinning - <br /> 300. Total acres thinned - ]20. Approximate cords of pulpwood cut - <br /> 69~. Approximate total yield to landowners and cutters - $26,904. <br /> <br />Tothl acres harvested for sawtimber - T00. Total board feet of <br />sawtimber cut - 435,000. Approximate value of sale - $35,000. <br /> <br />Nineteen landowners applied for cost-sharing assistance; ]6 have <br />approved (eight during the fourth quarter). Planting was completed <br />on ]84 acres; 93 acres remain for the ]983-84 season. <br /> <br />Approximately 46 acres are involved in wildlife habitat improvement; <br />]]0 acres in watershed improvement. <br /> <br />FIRE WOOD <br /> <br />Approximately $2,000 was brought to landowners from the sale of fire <br />wood. <br /> <br />FOREST INSECTS AND DISEASES <br /> <br />Many requests for assistance with shade trees were serviced. Problems <br />were identified and control measures recommended. <br /> <br />Gypsy Moth traps were placed countywide during summer months. No <br />Gypsy Moths were found. <br /> <br />INFORMATION AND EDUCATION <br /> <br />Articles were placed in the Tribune and Daily Independent concerning <br />forest management, fire control, forest tree seedlings, Future Fariners <br />of America contest, and the appointment of new County Rangers. <br /> <br />Radi~ stations were provided spot announcements aimed at fire control. <br />COOPERATION <br /> <br />County Firemen's Association and Chief's meetings were attended by <br />the Rangers. "Smokey the Bear" posters were distributed to one fire <br />department. "Smokey" made appearances to fourth grades~ with color- <br />ing sheets being handed out to all third grades. <br /> <br /> <br />
