UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
I~ox 770, Concord, North Carolina 28025

Mr, Charles McGinnis ll-24-Bl
County Manager
Concord, N. C. 28025

Dear. , Charles,

In an effort fop you to be knowledgable of the FmHA program in Cabarrus
I am submitting the following:

FmHA has not been able to provide a very respectable service in this county in
the past since it was a part-time office; only open two days each week, Thl, ough
the efforts of a l~t of local people, a full-time office was opened on 8-31-79.
During the fiscal year ending 9-30-80, we approved over' 80 Rural Housing loalls,
over 20 Farme~' Program loans and 2 Rural Water g Sewer loans, I don~t have the
~otal amount of money loaned, but it would be in the range of $4~000,000.00.
During tho fiscal year ending 9-30-81, we had allotments on hgusing money and
were only able to make 50 Rural Housing loans, totaling $1,800,000,00~ but'
cause of tho crop disaster of 197~ we approved 45 ~mergenc~ loans totaling.-
$900,000.00. We also approved 3 Farm Development loans totaling over $300,000;
and 1 Business Guarantee for $278,000.00. :

According to the last report, North Carolina will ha~a more Rural Housing Funds
than we will use this fiscal year, due to a shortage df 'staff in most areas.
There will not bo allotments on the Rural Housing money, so Cabarrus could use
it if we had the staff to handle the work load.

We have had two pei~anent people and two temporary people for over a year. We '
can process, approve and service what loans we.have, plus approximately 100
Rural }lousing and 40 Farmer Program loans with this staff. This would be approx-
Jraated ;is Cci]ow.,;:

tOO 8ural Iloasing $3,700,000.00
40 Farm 1,000~000.00

TOTAl. $4,700,000. O0
