WIIAT THE DART SYSTEM I~EANS TO THE DISPATCH CENTER The Digital Alarm Report Transmission system offers numeroos advantages over previous methods of emergency service alert. Leased line systems suffer from the vulnerability of being put out of service if its only communication path, the one pair of wires from subscriber to dispatch, are broken. Also they require additional space for the receiving box of each one installed ae the dispatch center. This multiplies crowding, maintenance, and ser- vice t~affic in ~he dispatch center. Tape dialers utilize existing incoming telephone lines crowding communications and require dispatcher to hear and clearly understand details of type o[ problem and location during the caIl-in message. The DART features are: ] - Small and self-contained 2 - One unit can receive alert from up to 1,000 subscribers 3 - Gives audible alert when alert is received 4 - Gives quick glance easy-to-read display of message code 5 - Gives "hard-copy" paper printout with date and time for permanent record 6 - Communicates fast, typically 15 seconds from initiation of alarm at subscriber location to printout at dispatch cen~er 7 - Uses its own dedicated telephone line alleviating telephone traffic 8 - Completely ~ccurate with built-in parity detection for errors 9 - Gives subscriber code which is referred to directory where unlimited information can be listed giving ditectzons to locatzon, specifies helpful in emergencies (such as bedroom locations for fire department response,'location of hydrants, locked doors, occupants conditions such as invalid or elderly, owner's name, person to co.tact, etc.) ~0 - Completely maintenance free except for replacSng printout tape st long intervals P.O.
