CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF C~ISSIONERS <br /> ANNUAL REPORT <br /> NORTH CAROLINA DIVISION OF FOREST RESOURCES <br /> 1981-1982 <br /> <br />FOREST MANAGD'~NT <br /> <br />Received 86 management requests, serviced 80 this year. Total acres involved - <br />2,040. Total acres marked for harvesting and thinning - 589. Total acres of <br />pulpwood cut from pine plantations - 150. Total cords cut - 1,244. <br /> <br />Total income to !ando~ners and cutters from these sales - $48,516. <br /> <br />Total acres harvested for sawtimbgr - 251. Total board feet cut - 1,474,000. <br />Cords harvested along with sawtimber - 380. Total income to landowners fr~, <br />sale of sa~vtimber, pnlpwood, and fire wood - $100,400. <br /> <br />Nine lando~ers have applied for cost-sharing assistance for site preparation and <br />tree planting, which covers approximately 220 acres~ <br /> <br />FIRE WOOD <br /> <br />We had 83 requests from citizens for fire wood this year. Approximately 300 cords <br />were cut. ~is was sold at $6 or $7 pep truck load, which brought about $2,100 <br />fr~n the sale to lando~ners. <br /> <br />FOREST INSECTS AND DISEASES <br /> <br />'Ihere were 15 old beetle spots cut this year which cut approximately 247 cords of <br />pulp~ood. This brought about $9,633 to lando~.mers and cutters fr~l~ the sale. <br /> <br />During the year, many r~quests for assistance on shade trees ~ere serviced. The <br />problems were identified and methods of control were rec~mnended. <br /> <br />INFORMATION AND EDUCATION <br /> <br />Articles were placed i~ the Tribnne and D~ily Independent concerning fire control, <br />forest ,mnagement, fire wood, Smokey Dear progrm~s~ ~brest tree seedlings, ban <br />on burning, lifting of the ban on buPning, Rural Development Panel meetings, and <br />Future Fathers of America forestry contest. <br /> <br />cOOpERATION <br /> <br />! attended Deur Connty Firemen's Association meetings, ten Chief's meetings, and <br />nine volnnteer fire department meetings. I attended meetings with the ASCS, <br />Rural Development Panel, ~CD, SCS, and Natural Disaster Assessment meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />
