Sec. 4. Destruction or adoption of unredeemed animal <br /> <br /> (a) it an impounded en~mal is aot redeemed by the owner within the period <br />prescribed [n Section 3, it may be destroyed in a humane manner or shall become <br />the property of the animal shelter(s) and offered for adoption to any responsi- <br />ble adnlt who is williag to comply with tbis ordinance. It is recommended that <br />cylinder carbon monoxide gas r~lther than engine produced carbon monoxide gas be <br />nsed in the destroying of uncla~vaed animals. Such animal may be adopted or <br />purchased by the first such person who pays the adoption or purchase fee and <br />rabies vaccination fee. No rabies vaccination fee will be required for animals <br />sold to dealers licensed pursuant to the U. ,g. Department of Agriculture's <br />Animal. Procednre with reel)act to redemL~tion or adoption of t~nvaccinated dog or <br />cat. <br /> <br /> (a) Unless proof of a ~'urren~ rabies vaccinntion can be furnis~ed, e~ery <br />person who either adopts or redeems a dng or cat at the animal shelter will be <br />gives a "proof of rahies vacciuatioa card" at the time of the redemption or <br />adoptio%~. This card will be stamped with a date stating the maximum time limit <br />allowed to t~ke the dog or cat to the veterinarian of such parsee's choice for <br />rabies vac'ciuation. The time limit for dogs and cuts fear (4) mouths and older <br />will be seventy-two (72) hours, with Sn~days aod holidays excluded. For puppies <br />and kittens uader fear (4) months, the time limit will vary according to their <br />age. <br /> <br /> (b) Thc "proof of rabies vaccination card" will be completed and retnrsed <br />to the animal shelter by the veteriaaria{~. If this card is not r~turned to the <br />animal shelter withi~ the time limit specified on the card, a~ animal coutrol <br />o~ficer will be dispatched to retrieve the dog or cat, <br /> <br /> (c) Payment for rabies vaccination provided for in this section will be <br />the responsibility of the person redeemin5 or adopting the animal. <br /> <br />Sec. 6. Suspected rabid aaimals not to be redeemed or adopted, <br /> <br /> tiotw~thstandieg nny other provision of this article, animals impounded <br />which apl)et~r to be suffering from rabies shall sot he redeemed or adopted, bst <br />:~hall be dealt with ill accord with Article I1 of this ordinance. <br /> <br /> <br />
