A %ot~ of 59~ acres was involved. Seventeen acres of Loblolly pine pl~tations were m~'ked to be thinned ~d sold for p~pwood. T~enty-~ive acres were thinned ~th approximately 2~O cords cut ~d sold to Catawba Timber Comply. This brought about $8~400 to l~downers from the sale of pulpwood. For sa~aber~ 1,~84~.bo~d feet were h~'vested From 164 acres. This brought appro~mately $/~7~566 to l~do%~ners ~rom the s~e oi' sa%~imber. Eight acres of cutover woo~and %.;as prepped to be plm~ted in Loblolly pines t~s %tinter. I have rotor more r'~uests for site preparation ¥~o~'k to be done. SRADE TRE~ I serviced eight requests from l~do%a]ers who c~ted concerning shade tree probl~s. In m~y cases~ the l~do~.a~er was advised howto fertilize~ pl~t, ~d spray, ir needed. Others needed advice about insect control, diseased trees mid trees d~_ng from hot: dry s~er %4eather. FIRE WOOD I assisted eleven landowners in getting fire wood to b[u'n this YMnter. Some of 5he %~ood was free ~d some was sold by the truck load. FOR~T INSECTS ~D DISEASES The Southern Pine Beetle is still very active in Cab~'rus Comity. We have located 250 spots of infestation ~d plotted them on maps. ~t of these 250 spots, 15 have been s~v~ed ~nd sold For p~pwood ~]d sa~imber. M~y requests ~rive each day concerning t~s problem. Since October, i have checked 15 spots~ s~v~ed 258 cords of p~pwood~ and 600 board ~eet o~ t~ber. This brought about ~000 to !~do~ers from the s~e of beetle-infested %~ood.
