COOPERATION <br /> <br /> Attended four volunteer fire department meetings, one Cabarrus Co~mty <br /> Firemen's Assi¢iation meeting, and three Ckie£'s meetings. Conducted <br /> training sessions ,~-.th Harrisburg VFD on ~oods, grass, and brush fires. <br /> Attended R,~s2 Development Panel meeting at-the County Agent' s Office, <br /> <br /> FIRE CONTHOr, <br /> <br /> This quarter we have reported 63:fires, which burned 51 acres of grass, <br /> pasture, and woodland. <br /> <br /> Man Hours for Volunteer Fire Dep'grtment Units - 1,122 <br /> Man Hours for County Ranger and Assistant 152 <br /> <br />Five fires are still under investigation. All 8epartments have done an <br />outstandihg job and the County should be very proud of each department. <br /> <br /> ~,~)RK PENDING LAST QUARTER <br /> <br />Fifteem forest manag~nent plm~s to make or'revised. Eighty acres to be pre- <br />pared for planting, and 140 acres to be planted. One hundred acres are to be <br />marked and thira~ed. Eighty. abres~ are to be measured for .planting nex~ plant- <br />ing season. Harvesting of'sawtimber on five areas to be checked for site <br />preparation next plantingfisc~ year 1981-82. Seventy acres of thinning to <br />be completed. <br /> <br />Fire departments to be visited this quarte~ are Rimer, Poplar TenS, Mt. Mitchell, <br />Mt. Pleasant, Northeast, and Kannapolis. There are three Chief,s meetings ahd <br />one Association meeting to atten'd. Two fire departments will be trained in <br />· woods, grass, and brush fires. <br /> <br />We ~rill present one forest ~management to sixth graders at Odell School. We <br />will' set up three ~ture Farmers of America contes%s at schools. Will attend <br />Girl Scout meeting with Den Leader Mrs. Hinson. <br /> <br />ASSISTANT COUNTY ~LANGF%t <br /> <br />Mr. Scott G.' Frs_uzak ~i~l~t'hired on Janua~y~12,: 1981, for Cabarrus Assistant <br />County Ranger. Scott- h~s-ass~sted the County Ranger in forest management'plans, <br />measuring land' for planting~ ~marking pulpwood~-and seedling delivery. He has <br />accompanie~ bhe Ranger on most of the l~a~d preparation-and tree planting~ He <br />has visited fire~'depsr~m~eht~ snd. rhas'b~come~.acquainted with firemen. He has <br />assisted-the'R~nger~'wi$.h forest fires ~and~is'now~.tsking charge of haif of the <br />fires. He~ has accompa~ied~-the Ranger on forest managemen~ programs in schools <br />and in fire control programs throughout the county <br /> <br />Scott is undergoing the North Carolina Forest Service tr~ining at this time <br />and is doing quite well in all phases.~ Re has been a lot of help to the Co~unty <br />~ud to the County Rang~, and will continue to be in the future. <br /> <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> <br />
