Reasons for Support

A~though we are aware that the Commissioners of Cabarrus
~ounty receive many requests each, year for funds, we feel that
our proposal should be supported for tile following reasons:

1. The Cabarrus County Courthouse is the only remain-
ing public historic structure in the county with
restoration potential.

2. The courthouse houses five important and success-
ful organizations--Historic Cabarrus, The Old
Courthouse Theatre, The Art fiuild, The Junior
Charity League, and The Memorial Library and Museum.

3. Historic Cabarrus has shown its commitment to the
courthouse by raising $125,OO0 in contributions
and $50,000 in donated materials which were used
for repairs and restoration.

4. The Old Courthouse Theatre, with an annual season
ticket sales of 1500 and yearly budget of $40,000,
will not be able to use the second £1oor ~heatre
for next year's productions unless 2epairs are be-
gun as soon as possible. This organization has
spent at least $20,000 in the last few years con-
verting the courthouse's second floor courtroom
into a theatre.
