4. Due to water damage and age, the whole second floor <br /> ceiling is unstable and needs to be replaced as soon <br /> as possible. <br /> <br /> 5. The theatre should not be used again Until repairs <br /> are started and the ceiling stabilized. <br /> <br /> 6. It will take approximately 3 months to make the nec- <br /> essary repairs. <br /> <br />Costs and Financing <br /> <br /> Based on discussions with ~. Brannan, the three contractors, <br />and Mr. Don Yelverton, restoration architect from Charlotte, who <br />has advised Historic Cabarrus in the past on restoring the court- <br />house, it is estimated the:total cost for emergency repairs to <br />the building to be $120,000. The Cannon Foundation has agreed to <br />donate $40,000 provided the other $80,000 can be raised by Seo- <br />tember 30, 1981. Historic Cabarrus, Inc. would like to ~eque~t <br />a donation of $60,000 from Cabarrus County provided the remaining <br />$20,000 can be raised from other sources by September 30, 1981. <br />These funds will be used to pay for the ~ollowing: <br /> <br /> 1. Architectural, mechanical, and electrical engineering <br /> plans. <br /> <br /> 2. Repair roof. <br /> <br /> 3. Repair and replace damaged support beams, joists <br /> and 2' X 2's. <br /> <br /> 4. Remove existing plaster ceiling on the second floor. <br /> <br /> 5. Install new dry wall ceiling on the second floor. <br /> <br /> 6. Rewire new ceiling. <br /> <br /> 7. Install new lights in ceiling. <br /> <br /> 8. Install smoke and fire detection system in ceiling. <br /> <br /> 9. Reinstall in the ceiling stage lights used by the <br /> Old Courthouse Theatre. <br /> <br /> 10. Pay for temporary repairs done by Kannapolis Con- <br /> struction Company in April, 1981. <br /> <br /> <br />
