INFOF~MATION AND EDUCATION <br /> <br /> Articles were o!aced in the Tribune and Independent concerning the ban on <br /> burning, when %he ban was lifted, forest fire danger, the FFA forestry con- <br /> test, and refuresting information. ~P~%dio stations were notified during periods <br /> of high forest fire danger. I notified the Fire Marshal, Director of ~argency <br /> Services, the volunteer fire departments and the Sheriff's Department on high <br /> fire danger days. Displays on fore control and forest management were placed <br /> in the County Building, One school was visited, the 0de!l sixth grades. We <br /> gave pine seedlings to the Psrks ~d Recreation Department for Arbor Day. Fire <br /> safety programs to Girl Scouts 'and Cub Scouts were presented. We held a Forestry <br /> Contest for FFA students from Mount Pleasant,. Central] Cabarets, ~-nd Charlotte. <br /> We assisted the Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor in giving material <br /> to ~ill county schools. A forestry program was presented to ~-H students at <br /> Royal 0ak2 <br /> <br /> COOPERATION <br />Attended seven volunteer fire department ~etings- one at Cabarx~us County <br />Firemen' s Association meeting~ and tkree Chief' s meetings. We conducted training <br />sessions with Mount Pleas'~rut VFD and Mt. Mitchell VFD on grass and woods fires. <br /> <br />FIRE CONTROL <br /> <br />This quarter we have reported 21 fires which bummed eight ~cres of grass, <br />.pasture~ and woodland. <br /> <br /> Man Hours £or Volunteer Fire Departments - 290 <br /> Man Hours for Ranger and Assistant 64 <br /> <br />All departments have done 8_u outstm]ding ~ob and the county shou/d be very <br />proud of each department. <br /> <br />WORK PM~DING · <br /> <br />Eight forest management plans a~,e to be made or revised. One hundred acres ane <br />to be marked for thinning. Seventeen acres of sawtimber are to be marked for <br />cutting.
