It is suggested that Cabarrus County convert to a 24 hour on/48 hour
off system. The ambulance calT log verifies that on the average, our ambulances
answer a significant 'number of calls on a 24 hour basis. There are numerous
out-of-town calls that remove ambulances and crews from service for periods of
from approximately 2 hours for a Charlotte transport to 7 hours for a transport
to Duke hospital. There have been other transfers to cities such as Greenville,
N.C., Blowing Rock, N.C., and Johnson City, Tennessee To service these calls
and retain sufficient coverage for Cabarrus County, we need personnel to operate
3 ambulances on ~ach shift. With the crew chief as dispatcher and one person
to fill vacation, compensatory time and sickness, it is necessary to have 8
persons per shift.

Cost of an additional 8 person shift is approximately $110,675.28 annually,
plus an additional $500 one time expense.
