7. Matching Fund Program A matching fund program for community developnmnt on County controlled property should be expanded aggressively. This program has resulted zn significant improvements to community parks throughout the County It is apparent ~hat County residents are willing to contribute significantly to recreation facilities from which they benefit directly. The combination of con~nunity, County and federal funds can be successfully utilized to accellerate the proposed development program. It is recommended that this program be funded at a minimum~level of $50,000 annually, until such time as its major objectives are accomplished. C. INTERb~DIATE GOALS (6-10 years) 1. Mt~ Pleasant Watershed Park The proposed Mt. Pleasant Watershed Lake will adjoin the corporate limits of the Town. This proposed lake will be a flood storage facility but will also provide County residents with an opportunity for additional waterbased recreation. This project will be cost shared by the federal government. The first priority is for land acquisition, and approximately 90 acres of land will be required. · .~- Estimated Cost No estimate 2. Harrisburg Community Park It is anticipated that the continued growth of the Harris- burg area will require development of the park land acquired in the immediate stage. Proposed development will include a l~ghted multi-purpose athletic field for soccer, football and league softball, an informal softr ball field, three tennis courts, group picnic facilities, family picnic areas, jogging, hiking and nature trails, toilets, parking and related facilities. Estimated Cost $170,000 3. Matching Fund Program During this period, new needs will doubtlessly emerge for the community parks on school properties. Other local needs will also become apparent. It is recommended that the matching fund program be continued and perhaps increased. Estimated Cost $50,000 annuall~ VII-8
