LONG-RANGE DEVELOPMENT

Projected development beyond 1990 will depend on a number of
variable factors, the most basic of which is population
growth and distribution. At the present time Cabarrus County's
population is expected to grow to approximately 88,000 people
in 1990, up from an estimated 84,000 in 1980. By the year
2000, this number is expected to reach 93,000 A major need
will doubtlessly be for additional swimming facilities~ Where
possible, natural bodies should be utilized for swimming, but
if these areas cannot be developed, it will be necessary to
build additional swimming pools.

VII-9

I
