Department,ftown~f Landis Police Department and the Rowan County Sherif~'s Department <br />with a branch office located in an unincorporated urban ares of Kannapolis. <br /> <br /> Medical/hospital'care in the Rowan County area of the growth center is provided <br />by two hospitals: Rowan Memorial, a 324 bed facility located outside the growth <br />center in Salisbury, North Caroling and Cabarrus Memoriai Hospital, ~ 467 bed facility <br />located in Concord, North Carolina. There are two public educational systems located <br />in the growth center, the Rowan County Public Schools and the Kannapolis City Schbol <br />system. Rowan County Public Schools have a regional senior high school located west <br />of China Grove and Kannapolis City Schools have a city-wide senior high school located <br />in Kmnnapolis which serves part of Cabarrus and Rowan Counties. <br /> <br /> Recreation is provided by the Kannapolis YMCA, the Landis Recreation Foundation <br />and the town of China Grove Recreation Department. A new South Rowan YMCA has been <br />chartered and 25 acres of land has been donated by the Linn-Corriher Corporation <br />located on Kimball Road to.construct the future facilities of the South Rowan YMCA. <br /> <br /> Three libraries serve the Rowan County area of the growth center. The Kanna- <br />polls YMCA has a library located in its facility that serves the city-wide area of <br />Kannapolis. The towns of Landis and China Grove operate municipal libraries .in <br />their towns. A new South Rowan Branch of the Rowan County Library is proposed to <br />be located in Landis to p~ovide full library service for the South Rowan area that <br />is not conveniently served at the present time. <br /> <br /> Cultural activities are provided through many civic clubs and organizations <br /> <br />as well as activities sponsored by the local schools and industries. Transportation <br />is good for this part of Rowan County including several major highways, U.S. 29, <br />Interstate 85, N.C. 152, and N.C. 153 with'mady secondary paved roads making t~ <br />fairly easy to travel from one point' to another. This area is also served by <br />Southern Railroad who has its main north-south railroad line running through the <br />growth center. Rowan County maintains and operates a general aviation airport <br />located six miles north of China Grove. Public transportation is provided by the <br />Kann~polis Transit Company which provides fixed routes that run from Kannapolis <br /> <br /> <br />
