The North Carolina Division of Forest <br />~(esourees is responsible for the protection and management of all forest la-nd, <br />with the exception oF city and municipal land. <br /> <br />Only of.c :l%nger ie employed in Oabarrus Oolm%y. He receives assist~ncs from <br />Jerviae Forester f~on the Bis%riot Office in fores% management work. T_his in- <br />cludes forest ms/l~jement pls_ns, exa~dnation of ~oodla~nd, timber m.~rking~ and <br />$1~ve~ing. There are three Grew Lender %~'ardens in tile oolmty to assist ~.ri%h <br />Fire suppression if' needed. These men can be used when the ~u~er is not <br />avail~ole~ or .~hen more than one fire is going at the same t~m~s. These men <br />ar6 paid on ail hourly basis. <br /> <br />T:! <br /> <br />The Caba_~rus County .:~ngar depends on voluuteer firs departments d~ring fire <br />~,argencies. There are 18 departments in the county, including Kannapotis <br />departments. The 3singer visits each departmenL ones a year to det*rmlne the <br />need for graip~ing in fighting woods fires. Seven departments have been visited <br />so £ag' i~'~ 1980. If needed, the :~nger supplies these departments ~ith hand <br />fire Fighting tools when they are available. Each depa/'tment has these tools, <br />~th %he exception of Harrisbu~-g ~ld they did not request then. The <br />re[tends Caba~'rus Fira~en~s Association meetings, having attended two so far <br />in 1980. (There a~e fou~ each yea~) The ~{anger is 51so a mambsr of the Ghisf's <br />Association, which meets once per month. The Oou/lty ~nge:, is responsible for <br />trainir~ Crew Leader ~.;ardens and keeps hhem infolded about forest fire danger. <br /> <br />F CiLii'iZo _3~D <br /> <br />The Ce~mty ~anger has an office in the basement of the Cmmty BuildinE at <br />745 ~nbm~s .'venue, ~Jest. He has radios in bls office, both County and State, <br />and ia in communication with the Country Fire Dispatcher at the Sheriff's Office, <br />tho Fire Karshel, and all volunteer fire departments in the county. There are <br />two !~. C. Forest So,wise trucks available that are equipped with County <br />State radios and the :~nger can stay in co~nnunication with si1 county departments, <br />and the District Office i~ Mount Holly, N. C. The trucks are equipped with water <br />tanks, pumps, and motors for fire suppression, and. ether forestry work. He is <br />also equipped with radios in his homo and has portable radios that he carries <br />when he is doing forest mSmagement work in the field. <br /> <br /> <br />
