State Youth Council, a division of the D~partment of Administration's <br />Youth Involvement Office, was created by legislative action in 1969 as a reflection <br />of the concern to provide yonth with the opportunity to develop leadership skills and <br />become responsible citizens. In addition to providing ongoing technical assistance <br />to groups wishing to establish youth councils that will give young people the <br />opportunity to acquire meaningful citizenship skills, this agency periodically conduc~- <br />leadership~workshops and conferences. <br /> <br />March 9th, 10th, and llth, the State Youth Council and the Raleigh Youth Council will <br />co-sponsor the 1979 Youth Legislative Assembly (YLA). The assembly will be held at <br />the Royal Villa in Raleigh. At this time, young people from across North Carolina <br />will gather to voice their sentiments regarding governmental affairs and issues <br />in our state. Each youth delegate will participate in one of twelve task forces and <br />be responsible for helping to formulate a list of recommendations and resolutions <br />dealing with the topic of his/her particular task force. A final report of their <br />resolutions will be prepared for the Governor, the Cabinet, and the NC Legislature. <br />Also, high-ranking state officials will be in attendance. This assembly is a unique <br />opportunity for North Carolina youth to presen[ their views directly to the leg%slature <br /> <br />Ideal]y, this program is for all young people in North Carolina. This in[ormation is <br />being sent to you in hopes that several young people from your area will be willing <br />and able to participate in the YLA. So ~lease share this information with others. <br />We encourage you to request that your agency/organization sponsor several high school <br />students to YLA. The registration fee per student will be $37. This includes the <br />following: one imlch, one breakfast, one dinner, room accomodations, entertainment, <br />and conference supplies. The registration fee per adult will be' $67 for single <br />occupancy, and $47 for double occupancy. The fee for adnlts includes the items <br />mentiom.d above. Supervison will be provided, however, we request that an adult <br />chaperone accompany your delegaton if you are planning to send four or more students. <br /> <br />Enclosed please find a tentative agenda and a copy oT the registration from ~o be <br />completed by each delegate and returned to the Youth Involvement Office along with <br />the registration fee no later than Febroarv 16, t979.
