CABARRUS COUNTY
Post Office l~ex 707
CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA 28025

TO: Charles McGinnis/County Manager
FROM: W. S. Chandler/Director of Planning'~~-~
RE: Road Petitions

DATE: January 18, 1979

In recent conversation with Mr. T. L. Patterson of the North
Carolina DOT office in regard to subdivision design and the
requirements that the State has for roads, the subject of the
State assuming maintenance of roads in the County and the process
involved, fell under discussion.

Mr. Patterson stated that the Department of Transportation only
required that a petition be completed and mailed to them, and
that a resolution by the Board of County Commissioners was not
required each time a petition was submitted to the State. A
formal resolution by the Board of Commissioners is only required
by the State when they accept the responsibility of its mainten-
ance. Mr. Patterson also remarked that the State at that time
would contact the County officials for a formal resolution on the
roads that they could accept for maintenance.

Since we are working to resolve duplications of street and road
names as well as subdivision names in the course of day to day
operations, we will be working closely with the State on these
matters. If you approve, road petitions could be handled direct-
ly through this office. After submission, we could check for
any inconsistancies and then forward them to the State office.

If you would consider this method of processing the road petitions
~nd should you feel it would be beneficial, please advise,
