DIVISION OF FOREST RESOURCES ACTIVITY P~EPORT <br /> TO <br /> BOARD OF CO~TY CO,X94ISSIONERS <br /> CABAP~US COUNTY <br /> FISCAL YF~JR 1978 - 79 <br /> <br />FOREST RESOURCES: Cabarrus Oomuty contains approximately 104,783 acres <br />of commercial forest land. This acreage represents abou± 45 percent of <br />the total lm~d s-~ea. Co~mty and municip~l areas include approximately 374 <br />acres~ farmers 40,605~ individuals 62,981~ mud State (Reed Gold F~ile) 823 <br />acres. The North Carolina Division of Forest Resobtrces is responsible for <br />the protection and management of al! forest land with the exception of <br />city mud municipal laud. <br /> <br />PERSO~_q~: O~_ly one Ranger is amp!oyed to work in Cabarrus County. He <br />receives assistance from a Field Forester in forest management work. Tkis <br />includes ms_nagement plans, examination of woodlands, tLmber marking, and <br />surveying. The Field Foreste~ is scheduled to work in Cabarrus Comity two <br />days per week. Help from District Headquarters in forest management is <br />sometimes available. There are three Crew Leader Wardens in the county to <br />help with fire suppression if needed. These men can be used when the Ranger <br />is not avallabl.e, or when more than one fire is going at the smme time, These <br />men are paid on an hourly basis. <br /> <br />TP~A.L~!NG: The Cabarzs~s County Ranger depends upon volunteer fire departments <br />during fire emergencies. There are 18 volunteer fire departments in the <br />county~ including Kannapolis departments. The Ranger visits each department <br />once a year to determine their needs for training in fighting woods fires. <br />Eight departments have been visited so far in 1979. If needed, he supplies <br />them with hand fire fighting tools when they are available. The Reneger <br />attends the Fireman's Association Meetings (four each year) and has attended <br />one so far in 1979. The r~]ger is also a member of the Chief's Association <br />which meets once a month. The County Ranger is responsible for training <br />Crew Leader Wardens and keeps them informed ab-o~ forest fire danger. <br /> <br />FACILITIES ~d~D EQUIPM~4T: The County R2~nger has an office in the basement <br />of bhe County Building on Church Street in Concord. He has radios in his <br />office, both County and State, and is in communication with the County Fire <br />Dispatcher at the Sheriff's Office, Fire Marshal, and all volunteer fire <br />depmrtments in Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> <br />
