STANDARDS FOR SELECTION OF COUNTY <br /> SOCIAL SERVICES BOARD MEMBERS <br /> <br /> 1. Board members ~hould be representative, public-spirited citizens <br /> with demonstrated concern for the social needs of the county. They <br /> should not be selected specifically to represent any organizatiop. <br /> It is desirable for board membership to include men and women from <br /> representative ethnic groups. <br /> <br />2. Board members should be selected in order to give representation to <br /> the various geographical sections of the county when practicable. <br /> <br />3. Board members should be able to give the necessary time to attend <br /> board meetings regularly. <br /> <br />4. Board members must not use their membership on the board to promote <br /> the interests of any political canditates or partisan measures. <br /> <br />5. No person shall be considered for employment in a county'department <br /> of social services:dur'ing the time a member of his immediate family <br /> is serving on the county board of social services or the board of <br /> county commissioners in the same county. This regulation 'n no <br /> way affects the status of a person already an employee of a county <br /> department of social services, whose immediate family member becomes <br /> a candidate for or is appointed or elected to the county board of <br /> social services or the board of county commissioners 'n the same <br /> county.. Immediate family member for purposes of this regulation is <br /> defined as-wife, husband, mother, father, brother, sister, son, <br /> daughter, grandmother, grandfather, granddaughter, grandson, stepmother, <br /> stepfather, stepson, stepdaughter, mother-l.n-law, father-ln-law, <br /> son-in-law, daughter-ln-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, <br /> uncle,.niece, and nephew. <br /> <br />6.' North Carolina General Statutes I08-28 provides that no payment of <br /> public assistance from Federal, State, or county funds may be made <br /> for the care of any person in a nursing home, home for the aged, <br /> family care home, or intermediate care home which's owned or <br /> operated in whole or 'n part by a member of the State Commission of <br /> Social Services, the county board of social services, the board of <br /> county commissioners, an official or employee of the State Social <br /> Services Division or of any county social services department, or <br /> a spouse of any of the above individuals. <br /> <br /> North Carolina General Statutes 108-28.1 provides that no person may <br /> hold more than two appointive offices or one elective and one <br /> appointive office concurrently. <br /> <br />April, 1977 <br /> <br /> <br />
