C. 28204 i300 BAXTER ST. 704/372-~416
August 15, 1977
Mr. S. Glenn gawfield, Jr.
85 Washington Lane, SE
Concord, NC 28025
Dear Mr. Hawfield:

As you may know, the Region F Aging Advisory ~ommittee consists of eighteen members
who meet bi-monthly to advise the Area Agency on Aging staff and the Executive Board
of the Centralina'Council of Governments on matters relating to services'for older
persons in Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburgl Rowan, Stanly and Union
Counties. The Aging Advisory Committee is involved in Area Agency activities in
many ways as depicted in the attached Exhibit from the Area Plan for Fiscal Year -
1978.
The Advisory Committee was established to comply with Federal Regulations (attached)
which requires that 50% (nine members) of the Committee be actual older (60+) con-
sumers of services. Furthermore, older (60+) minority older persons must be repre-
sented on the Committee in the same proportion as they exist in the general popula-
tion. In Region F this regulation means that three Aging Advisory Committee members
must be minorifiy older persons.
Four persons from Mecklenburg County and two persons from the remaining seven counties
are appointed to the Committee for two yea~ terms. The County Cot~nissioners and the
Council on Aging each make one appointment. In Mecklenburg County, however, they each
make two appointments. Terms run concurrent with the fisdal year beginning October 1.
The two year terms of County Commissioner's appointees begin in October of even num-
bered years. The two year terms of Council on Aging appointees begin in October of
odd numbered years.
The present terms of the Council on Aging appointees are coming to an end. This neces-
sitates that present members be reappointed or new appointments be made. There are
also vacancies which need to be filled by the appointees of County Con~nissioners. A
list of vacancies is attached for reference. The two appointing groups may wish to
coordinate their efforts in order to insure that suitable appointments which fulfill
membership needs are made. Title III or Title VII Project Directors may be quite
helpful in suggesting potential appointees.
CASARRUS coU'NTY concord harrisburg ' mount pleasant GASTON COUNTY belmont bassemer oily cherryvHle gaslonia
locust new london norwood oakboro rlchf~eld slanfJeld UNION COUNTY monroe waxhaw wlngale
