G/harrus Co/mt], Ilea~th Dq~,/r/men/ <br /> <br /> CABARRUS COUN~I~ J/LIL HEALTH P~DGRAM <br /> <br /> The Cabarrus County Health Department will begin providing ser~-ices to <br /> the Cabarrus County jail on November 1, 1977. <br /> <br /> The goals of ~qis program are: <br /> <br /> 1. assessment of prisoner health problems <br /> 2. prevention of coIffmmnicable disease outbreaks in the jail <br /> 3. early detection of diseases or conditions requiring <br /> additional medical care <br /> 4. documentation of heal~l needs of a population not <br /> currently receiving routine primary health care <br /> <br />The n~chanism for the attainment of these goals will be health screening <br />clinics conducted by Physician Extenders enlployed at the Health Department. <br />Health screerntng clinics will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Friday from <br />8:00 AM to 9:00 AM in the sick call room at the county jail. Routine <br />screening will be provided on admission for all prisoners remanded to the <br />county jail to serve sentences. Other residents, including those who are <br />being held for court hearings, will be provided screening services <br />appropriate to their health complaints. <br /> <br />ScreeD/ng procedures to be done on site at the jail include: <br /> <br /> 1. admission history <br /> 2. vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration) <br /> 3. blood pressure <br /> 4. venereal disease tests for gonorrhea and syphilis <br /> 5. tubercu/osis skin test <br /> 6. urinalysis for protein and glucose <br /> 7. assessment of nutritional status <br /> 8. assess~ant of socio-e~otional status <br /> 9. assessment of prisoner's health complaints <br /> 10. CBC and blood sugars as indicated <br /> 11. pap ~ars for w~m~n <br /> 12. breast eDeqms for v~nen <br /> 13. pregnancy testing as indicated <br /> 14. family planning counseling as indicated <br /> 15. hematocrit <br /> 16. sickle dex <br /> <br /> <br />
