Cabarrus County Jail Health Program <br /> Page 2 <br /> October 17, 1977 <br /> <br /> Prisoners with abnormal findings detected via screening procedures will <br /> be referred for physician care. <br /> <br /> For services outside the routinely scheduled health screening clinics, <br /> county jail personnel may bring prisoners to the health depa~h,ent late <br /> afternoon sick call Clinics. Appointments for these visits will be made <br /> with the designated health department clerical staff. Evening, weekend, <br /> and holiday services will be obtained at the Cabarrus Memorial Hospital <br /> <br /> Prisoners whose c~mplaints the health department Physician Extender cannot <br /> treat will also be referred to the emergency rc~m. <br /> <br /> Patient education and inservice education of jail personnel related to health <br /> care matters will be accx~mplished as a part of this Jail Health Program. <br /> Group inservice education sessions for jail personnel will be provided as <br /> needs are identified. <br /> <br />Evaluation of this program will be aimed at quality as well as quantity of <br />services rendered. Periodic evaluations to be done no less often then semi- <br />annually, will be a shared responsibility of the health department and the <br />county jail. Questions to be addressed will pertain to adequacy of hours and <br />personnel in health screening clinics, cost effectiveness of the program, and <br />need for levels of care other than screening. <br /> <br />Responsibilities of Cabarrus County Health Department: <br /> <br /> 1. provision of Physician Extender and/or nursing staff for <br /> clinic services <br /> <br /> 2. provision of written protocols for health screening <br /> clinics <br /> <br /> 3. provision of patient record forms <br /> <br /> 4. provision of supplies for coma~nicable and chronic <br /> disease screening <br /> <br /> 5. data collection regarding services rendered <br /> <br /> 6. health education for patients and jail personnel <br /> <br /> 7. develofm~nt of evaluation tools <br /> <br />P~sponsibi!ities of Cabarrus County Jail: <br /> <br /> 1. provision of attendants for male and female prisoners during <br /> clinic sessions <br /> <br /> 2. provision of secure envirorm~nt for health department personnel <br /> and all health care supplies and equii~ent <br /> <br /> 3. provision of expendable supplies <br /> <br /> <br />
