579

County Attorney James C. D~q,~s ~eported an offer of $1100.00 for the
property of Martha N. Brown, deceased, on which the County has an O.A.A. lien
of $2,180.00 The funeral cost of $900.00 would leave the County approximately
$200.00. Attorney Davis explained that this was the true value that was shown
on the tax books and that the County would probably receive nothing if the
property was sold at public auction. Commissioners authorized Mr. Davis to
accept the terms offered by the purchaser on a monthly payment basis and to
cancel the lien when the purchase price was paid. Motion was made to this
effect by Hawfield, seconded by Ranktn. Vote carried.

Mrs. Frances Long, Welfare Director, and County Manager Hurt presented a
proposs.! by the Dictaphone Corporation to trade fifteen (15) dictaphones and
transcribing machines for fifteen (15) new model machines for a special allowance
of $1,515.00 which was $670.00 over the regular allowance for used machines. In
addition the proposal provided for one year free maintenance valued at $525.00,
a year's supply of erasable belts, and two carrying cases. The proposal further
provided for payment of one half (½) of the difference in .trade upon delivery of
machines and the balance due in 196~ with no interest charge. A payment of
surplus funds by the State Welfare Board in the amount of $2,107.00 was reported
to have been received by the local unit in July, 1967, for use in purchasinU
equipment and supplies.
