A split level Courthouse would penmit jail location <br /> on McChern Blvd. and main Courthouse above the jail <br /> facing the street. <br /> 4. It would lend itsel~ to a two level parking area, <br /> which would add to already adequate parking space. <br /> 5. Good natural drainage would be an asset. <br /> 6. The county would not lose a great deal of taxable <br /> ineomee <br /> Disadvantages: <br /> 1. Pu~chaae Pric~ could be excesaive <br /> 2. Some razing of buildings would be necessary <br /> 3. Accessibility would be difficult. <br /> <br />Therefore noting the following facts: <br /> <br /> A. That all records of court and property are now <br /> stored in a building that is not fireproof. <br /> B. That under the new court requirements our present <br /> facilities are inadequate (courthouse and jail have <br /> been criticized as being in an unsatisfactory condition) <br /> C. Physical state of present Courthouse is such that <br /> maintainance is most exorbitanto <br /> , D. Arrangement of present building does not lend itself <br /> ~ to efficient government.~ <br /> E. Inadequate parking space in vicinity of present <br /> building° <br /> <br />We, therefore, make the following suggestions: <br /> <br /> 1. That a complete governmental complex be considered. <br /> 2. That you give consideration to the selection of a <br /> new site on the following basis: <br /> 1. The entire block located east side of <br /> Church Street between Means Street and <br /> Cabarrus Avenue. <br /> 2. The county home property located on Highway <br /> #6Ol. <br /> <br /> <br />
