'Th'e-regular monthly meeting of the Cabarrus County CommJss{o~ers was held at <br /> <br /> 9:90 A.M. on November 6, 1967, with the followin<~ members present: <br /> Chairman - C. Frank James <br /> <br /> Commissioners - Petrea, Beasley, Hawfteld, and Ranktn. <br /> <br /> Chairman .~ames called meeting to order. Prayer was by the Reverend Phil Edwards. <br /> <br />Minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br /> Upon motion by Petrea, seconded by Hawfteld, the following road petitions <br />were approved: <br /> <br /> T-[~ Joe Street - Request for addition <br /> T-k Oatther Street -Request for addition <br /> T-~$ Road #1827 - Oranview Drive Road - Install speed signs <br /> T-k Road #1(JO9 - Piedmont Drive - Install speed signs <br /> <br /> Mrs. R. L. Tucker, Sr., of Flowes Store Road and Mr. L. H. Carpenter, <br /> Township #k, complained to the Board that their taxes were too high. They were <br /> instructed to return next year when the Board of Equalization and Review were in <br /> session. <br /> <br /> C. Otce Allen,Jr., County Tax Collector, presented the Board with the final <br /> settlement of the 1966 taxes which is herewith recorded on page no. .5~' · <br /> <br />~Upon motion by Hawfteld, seconded by Petrea, the settlement was unanimously <br /> <br />laccepted as presented. <br /> <br /> St. James Lutheran Church represented by Mr. Clyde Propst, Sr., and Mr. J.W. <br />iMcOee, discussed wtth the Board the possibility of the County renting the old <br /> <br />Ipost office building, recently purchased by the church. Due to the fact that the <br /> plans for a new courthouse have not progressed to the point where a decision <br /> <br /> could be reached on this matter, the Board requested that the proposa~t be held <br />!open until a decision could be made. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jay M. Robinson, Superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools, and Mr. <br /> <br />IStewart Black, Chairman of Cabarrus County Board of Education, requested permission <br />to secure an option to purchase property located across the street from Mr. Plea- <br />sant High School from Mr. C. M. Lewellyn. It was pointed out that the land con- <br />sisted of 52 acres and could be purchased for $22,b~00.00, and was badly needed for <br />[expansion of that school unit. Upon motion by Petrea, seconded by Rankin, authort- <br />ization was granted to the County School Board to secure an option on this property <br />if or twelve (12) months. Vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> Mr. J. Ray Davis, Jr., and Mr~ Kent Prewttt, representing the Concord Chamber <br />of Commerce, discussed the possible development of an airport for the County which <br />could be partly financed with Federal and State Funds. They were instructed to <br /> <br /> ppotnt a committee to have a survey made of the possibilities and a cost <br /> <br /> <br />
