the Board and Mr. George. Griffin, architect. Hawfield made motion, seconded by
Rankin to accept the contract between the County and George A. Griffin to
provide professional .services for the pro~ect. Vote carried.

County attorney James C. Johnson r. eported to the Board on representation

by the firm of Johnson and Davis for the CQunty in matters before the State

Board of Asessment in Raleigh. The firm presented a bill for services for defend-
ing complaints on 109 parcels, in the amount of $1,600.00 including travel,
photograph~', and clerical expenses. Ranktn made motion, seconded by Petrea, to
pay this fee. Vote cart,ted.

A letter from Mr. W. C. Odell, Sr., to the Board of Commissioners notified

the Board of Mr. Odell's resignation as a member of the }{annapolis Street Planning
Board. Petrea made motion, seconded by Beasley to accept resignation of Mr. Odell~
vote carried. Petrea made motion, seconded by Beasley, to have County Manager

Hurt write Kannapolis Chamber of Com3uerce for recommendation of a person to
replace Mr. Odell.

County Manager Hurt requested two amendments to the 1967-68 budget. The

original for purchase af Sheriff Dept. cars contemplated four(l~) new cars with ~
four(h) cars traded in. After adoption of the budget it was deemed more desirable ....
to trade in only two cars retaining onaspare for the Sheriff Department auxiliary
and turn one car over to the tax department for the use of the appraisers,
eliminating a $50.00 per month travel allowance to the appr~isers. An amendment
to the County Office Building Budget was necessary to eliminate a deficit in that
budget resulting from a prepayment of the option on the Holding property on East
Corban Avenue. This prepayment saved the County $~00.00 of the purchase price of
the property. Rankin made motion, seconded by Hawfield, to transfer from the
unappropriated General Fund Surplus the amount of $2,~00.00 to the Sheriff Car
Budget including the cost of a new radio. Vote carried. Ranktn made motion,
seconded by Petrea~ to transfer from the unappropriated General Fund Surplus the
amount of $2,906.00 to the County Office Building Budget.
