600 * <br /> <br /> The regular monthly meeting of the Cabarr, us County Commissioners was held <br /> at 9:~0 A.M. on April 1, 1968, with the following members present: <br /> Vice-Chairman C. McNeil Petrea <br /> <br /> Commissioners - Dr. R. B. Ranktn, Jr., C. Glenn Hawfteld, <br /> <br /> and F. J. Beasley. <br /> <br /> Absent - Chairman C. Frank James <br /> <br /> Vice-Chairman ?etrea called the meeting ~D order. Prayer was by the Reverend <br /> <br /> Lonnte Karrtker. Minfites were read and approved. <br /> <br /> Mr. Reid Pangl¢, representtnc~ Kale-Lawing Company, Inc., discussed with the <br /> <br /> Board the Allison Building now occupied under lease by Kale-Lawtng Company, Inc. <br /> Mr. Pangle explained that the company has found another location and that it was <br /> desirable for the company to have some definite word from the County concerning <br /> <br /> the lease that will shortly be owned by the County building <br /> when <br /> the <br /> is <br /> purchased <br /> <br /> Ifrom present owners. County Attorney 3ames C. 3ohnson recolnmended that the Board <br /> talk with architect George Griffin concerning a target date for demolition of the <br /> <br /> building prior to construction. After these facts are obtained then the <br /> <br /> can take these facts into consideration and work out a solution for the situation <br /> <br /> with Kale-Lawtng's attorney. The Board agreed to follow these recommendations. <br /> <br /> Attorney Robert L. Warren, secretary of the Cabarrus CoUnty Bar Association, <br /> <br /> appeared in behalf of the Bar Association in relating to the Board the Association <br /> desires to help the Board in planning the new courthouse. Commissioner Ranktn <br /> asked the Bar Association for an official statement on whether or not the Bar <br /> Association was in favor of the Board's action in setting up the plans for a new <br /> courthouse and 3ail. Attorney Warren stated that he would return later with an <br /> official statement from the Bar Association. <br /> <br /> A resolution from the Kannapolis Sanitary District Board was presented <br /> <br /> requesting annexation to the district of property located in Rowan County. It <br /> was pointed out that since the district is in both counties, both Boards of <br /> Commissioners would have to approve the same reso}tution. Hawfteld made motion, <br /> seconded by Beasley, to accept the resolution. Vote carried. The resolution of <br /> the Kannapolts $antt~ry District Board and the resolution passed by the Cabarrus <br /> County Board of Commissioners appear on pages 602 and 60~_~ and become a part of <br /> these minutes. <br /> <br /> A letter from the Kannapolis Merchants Association recommended that Phtllip <br /> <br /> R. Ltppard, Leonard H. Barlow, Jr., .and J. R. (Bob) Tomlinson succeed Walter C. <br /> Odell, Sr., Cecil McCombs, and Ernest S. Austin on the Kannapolis Street Planning <br /> Board. Beasley made motion, seconded by Hawfteld, to accept this recommendation. <br /> Vote carried. <br /> <br /> <br />
