The regular monthly meeting of the Cabarrus County Commissioners was held <br /> <br /> at 9:50 A.M. on May 6, 1968, with the following members present: <br /> <br /> Chairman - C. Frank James <br /> <br /> Commissioners -F. J. Beasley, Dr. R. B. Ranktn, Jr. <br /> S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr., and C. McNeil Petrea. <br /> <br /> Chairman James called the meeting to order. Estus B. White, Clerk of Superior <br /> Court, administered an oath to C. Frank James, Dr. R.B. Rankin, Jr., C. McNeil <br /> Petrea, F. J. Beasley, S.Gl. enn Hawfield, Jr., and Ralph K. Litaker as members <br /> of the Board of E~ualization and Review. Mr. James then set meeting for the <br /> Board of Equalization and Review until Monday, May--20, 1968, at 9:~0 A.M. at <br /> the Courthouse. <br /> <br /> Invocation was by the Reverend J. Alton Fitzgerald. Minutes were read <br /> <br /> and approved. <br /> <br /> Miss El~$e Litaker, representing the Agriculture Stabilization and Conser- <br /> vation Service (ASCS) came before the Board requesting that the Board allow them <br /> to move their office from the second floor of the County Building on Church Street <br /> to the first floor. Commissioners Informed Miss Litaker that the space had <br /> already been assigned to the Cabarrus County Board of Elections and would be <br /> permanent headquarters for that office. <br /> <br /> A representative from the Mt. Mitchell Fire Department appeared before the <br />Board asking Commissioners to approve the boundaries of the Mt. Mitchell Fire <br />Department. The Department will offer fire protection services in portions of <br />both Cabarrus and Rowan Counties. Petrea made motion that we approve the bound- <br />aries of the Mt. Mitchell Fire District and that they be added to our 1968-69 <br />budget. Beasley seconded. Vote carried. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Helen Thomas, a representative of the Cabarrus Plumbers Association, <br />came before the Board requesting the Board to name a plumbing inspector for the <br />County. Commtsstoner'Rankin recommended that the members of the Plumbers Associ- <br />ation submit names for this position. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Hawfteld, County Manager Hurt, City Manager B. S. Barker, and <br />Vernon Teal were named as a committee to set up a .loint City-County Building, <br />Plumbing, and Electrical Inspector Department. <br /> <br /> R. Lynn Trout. came before the Board concerning a historical marker off <br /> <br />Eva Drive at the site where the Cabarrus Black Boys destroyed the British powder <br />train prior to the beginning of the Revolutionary War. Commissioners decided to <br />name a five member Cabarrus County Historical Commission to study historical sites <br /> <br /> <br />
