Long, Director of the County's Department of <br /> <br />Social Services, appeared before the Board to request a salary <br />increase for 21 employees of the Department. She asked that the <br />raise be retroactive to January 1, 1971. <br /> <br /> On motion made by McClary and seconded by Gallimore, Mrs. <br /> <br />Long's request was tabled in order to get more ~information. Vote <br /> <br />was unanimous. <br /> <br /> On a motion by Commissioner McClary, seconded by Gallimore, <br /> <br />and unanimously'carried, County Attorney Boger is to draw up a <br />resolution on behalf of the Commissioners, praising the life and <br />influence of Charles A. Cannon who died. April 2 at the age of 78. <br /> <br /> Albert J. Klimas, Director of the Cabarrus County Health <br /> <br />Department, asked Commissioners to approve the purchase of a van <br /> <br />for use in the,Depar.tment's rodent control program. <br /> <br /> Commissioners approved the request and asked the County <br /> <br />Accountant~to put out a bid. The contract will be awarded during <br /> <br />the May m~eting of the Board. <br /> <br /> Chairman Hawfield asked Albert Klimas to comment on the <br /> <br />Cabarrus Landfill. Klimas said the landfill is running smoothly <br /> <br />and the .recent-changeover presented no problems. <br /> <br /> A delegation from the Rowan County Rehabilitation Workshop, <br /> <br />headed by John..Nett.le.s,' Director, reported to the Board that it <br /> <br />appears the organization will not.need to seek an increase in <br />subsidy from the County next year. The Workshop received $4,500.00 <br /> <br />from Cabarrus County for the current fiscal year, and asked the <br />continued support of the County. Hawfield asked the County <br />Accountant to send Mr. Nettles a form, to submit in writing, <br />his budget request for the year beginning July 1, 1971. <br /> <br /> Bobby Benson, Midland, told the Board his taxes were "too <br /> <br />high"; after discussion, Chairman Hawfield told Benson he would <br />take this .up with the Tax Supervisor and let him know the outcome <br />as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> <br />
