857 to prepare the plans for submission at the May meeting of the Board. Mrs. Frances~L. Long, Director of the County's Department of Social Services, appeared before the Board to request a salary increase for 21 employees of the Department. She asked that the raise be retroactive to January 1, 1971. On motion made by McClary and seconded by Gallimore, Mrs. Long's request was tabled in order to get more ~information. Vote was unanimous. On a motion by Commissioner McClary, seconded by Gallimore, and unanimously'carried, County Attorney Boger is to draw up a resolution on behalf of the Commissioners, praising the life and influence of Charles A. Cannon who died. April 2 at the age of 78. Albert J. Klimas, Director of the Cabarrus County Health Department, asked Commissioners to approve the purchase of a van for use in the,Depar.tment's rodent control program. Commissioners approved the request and asked the County Accountant~to put out a bid. The contract will be awarded during the May m~eting of the Board. Chairman Hawfield asked Albert Klimas to comment on the Cabarrus Landfill. Klimas said the landfill is running smoothly and the .recent-changeover presented no problems. A delegation from the Rowan County Rehabilitation Workshop, headed by John..Nett.le.s,' Director, reported to the Board that it appears the organization will not.need to seek an increase in subsidy from the County next year. The Workshop received $4,500.00 from Cabarrus County for the current fiscal year, and asked the continued support of the County. Hawfield asked the County Accountant to send Mr. Nettles a form, to submit in writing, his budget request for the year beginning July 1, 1971. Bobby Benson, Midland, told the Board his taxes were "too high"; after discussion, Chairman Hawfield told Benson he would take this .up with the Tax Supervisor and let him know the outcome as soon as possible.
