C. Coltrane Ill <br /> recorrmending re-appointment of Fred H. Harkey as Watershed <br /> Commissioner, for a six-year term. Gallimore made motion, <br /> seconded by James to appoint Harkey. Vote unanimous. <br /> <br /> Daniel & Daniel was awarded the contract for auditing the <br /> <br /> County books for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1971. McClary <br /> <br /> made motion, seconded by James and carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> Commissioners approved demolition of the old bus station and <br /> <br /> the buildings on Church Street down to and including, the Downtown <br /> <br /> Garage. McClary made motion, seconded by Hammett. Vote unanimous. <br /> <br /> County Accountant was asked to advertise for bids on the <br /> <br /> demolition work. The contract will be aWarded at the Commissioner's <br /> <br /> Ma~y meeting. <br /> <br /> Chairman Hawfield reported on the Grand Jury's report and Judge <br /> <br /> Robert A. Collier, Jr.'s directive recommending that the Courthouse <br /> <br /> be torn down and a new one built ns soon as possible.. This is <br /> <br /> recorded on Page ~¢'~- and becomes a part of these mi.nutes. <br /> <br /> · * Judge Collier had requested Commissioners make a report on <br /> <br /> what was being done with regard to the building of a new Courthouse; <br /> <br /> Chairman Hawfield announced that he had met with the Judge and <br /> discussed what had been done so far and what was planned to be done <br /> in the future. <br /> <br /> Commissioners approved appointment of Gary Hagler and Tommy <br /> <br /> Lowder of the Midland Fire Department, and Elmer Cannon and C. W. <br /> Leonard of the Kannapolis Village Fire Department, to the Local <br /> Firemen's Relief Fund Committee. A motion to appoint these men <br /> was made by Gallimore, and seconded by McClary. Vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> A request from the Concord K~wanis Club for County funds to <br /> <br /> purchase a $250.00 film on drug abuse was turned down, because it <br /> was pointed out that the program is a club project, and would be <br /> setting a precedent whereby the County would be asked to subsidize <br /> other worthwhile club projects. <br /> <br /> Cabarrus County Tax Collector, C. Gice Allen, Jr. gave a <br /> <br /> report on tax collections, and told the Board that 89.3 per cent of <br /> <br /> the current year's tax levy has been collected. <br /> <br /> Allen said that for the first nine months of the 1970-71.fiscal <br /> <br /> year, a total of $3,317,160 had been collected.
