85 <br /> <br />Elementary School. A motion was made by Commissioner Hammett to <br />appropriate an additional $4,000. to complete construction of the school, <br />utilizing interest earned from school fund investments to cover the <br />appropriation. The motion was seconded by Commissioner James and the <br />vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> A request from the lessor of the Sanitary Landfill property <br />for an advance on the lease was denied. <br /> <br /> Chairman Hawfield read a letter from Corum F. Miller, Veterans <br />Service Officer. The letter noted that five full four year scholarships, <br />amounting to $8,500.00 each, were awarded to Veterans children through <br />the Concord Veterans Service office in Concord, in 1971. <br /> <br /> Chairman Hawfield read Rockland Sanitary District's letter in <br />response to Floyd Medlin's request for reimbursement for garbage and <br />septic tank service. He noted that the Board was merely recognizing <br />the response, and was taking no action. <br /> <br /> A petition signed by residents of Ross Street opposing changing <br /> <br />the name to Sunderland Road was received and forwarded to the County <br />Planner's office for appropriate action. <br /> <br /> Hammett made motion, seconded by James and carried to accept <br />road petitions as follow: <br /> <br /> Burke Street - Township 4 - Request for addition <br /> <br /> Crescent Street - Request for extension of ~treet <br /> <br /> Reubens Road - Picture Park - Gasser Drive - Township 11 - <br /> Request for addition <br /> <br /> Wildwood Drive - Request for addition <br /> <br /> Road 2470 and Woodway Drive - Reduction of speed limit to <br /> 25 miles per hour <br /> <br /> New road - Connecting roads 1123 and 1128 - Near Cabarrus <br /> Station - Request for addition <br /> <br /> Having no further business, meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m., <br />September 7, 1971. <br /> <br /> Clerk to Board <br /> <br /> <br />
