To wait five years would add at least $500,000 to the estimated cost
of the courthouse. A successful bond referendum means that it could be built
immediately. The bonds would be paid off at a rate of $136,000 yearly, and since
$90,000 was provided in the budget this year, only $46,000 more would be
required to retire the bonds.

Bonds are similar to a mortgage on a house and are paid off in the
same way. People using the courthouse ten or twenty years from now would help
pay for it in the same way they buy and pay for their homes. Bonds are the
best way to finance the sorely needed new courthouse, and I hope the citizens
of Cabarrus County realize this when the referendum is held on November 2, 1971.

S.
