The BOard of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus, North 'Carolina met in <br /> <br />regular session at the Courthouse in Concord on September 12, 1972 at 9:00 a.m. <br /> <br /> Present - Chairman: S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr. <br /> Commissioners: Robert A. McClary <br /> Charles Gallimore <br /> C. Frank James <br /> John A. Hammett <br /> <br /> Invocation was by Doctor Charles Coffey, First Baptist Church of Kannapolis. <br /> <br />The minutes of the August 7 and August 10, 1972 meetings were read and approved. <br />McClary made motion, seconded by Gallimore to adopt the resolution to install a <br />Police Information Network terminal in the Town of Kannapolis. Vote carried with <br />Harmnett voting no. This resolution is recorded on page 161 and becomes a part of <br />these minutes. <br /> <br /> Albert Klimas, Healt~ Director, stated ne felt the fires at the sanitary landfill <br /> <br />were due to increased volume and not to a default on the part o~ the contractor. The <br /> <br />Board stated that the fires should be put out as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> Klimas was asked to contact the Board of Air and Water Resources to see what <br /> <br />type ordinance they recommended to control the dumping of liquid wastes. <br /> <br /> Only two bids for five (5) police cars were received; North Carolina statutes <br /> <br />require three bids for County projects -for which the anticipated <br />cost will be more than $10,000. Hammett made motion to re-advertise for five (5) <br />police cars. Seconded by Gallimore and vote carried. <br /> <br /> Architect Griffin reported thatastudy was beingmadetodetermine the~bestu~seof the <br /> <br />additional money for the new courthouse and that he hoped to start construction <br /> <br />the first of the coming year. <br /> <br /> Gallimore made motion to accept the proposed budget for the Community Relations <br /> <br />Commission and to appropriate the funds from the unappropriated surplus for the <br /> <br />County's share. Motion seconded by McClary .and vote carried. This budget is <br /> <br /> recorded on page 163 and becomes a part of these minutes. <br /> <br /> Motion to certify the Midland and Odell Volunteer Fire Departments was made <br /> <br />by Gallimore and seconded by NcClary. Vote tarried. <br /> <br /> D. W. Tolbert with the interdiscipltnary-interagency training program invited <br /> <br /> the Board to a conference at Whispering Pines Motor Lodge to discuss how to co-ordinate <br /> <br />efforts to help the handicapped. <br /> <br /> Hammett asked the Board to think about turning some county owned property over to <br /> <br /> the Recreation Commision for use as a park. <br /> <br /> The following people were appointed to the Bi centennial Committee: Mrs. Guy <br /> <br />Beaver, Mrs. Rosa Sides, Dr. R. Brown McAlltster, Mrs Betty Williams and Miss Marcelle <br /> <br />Milloway. <br /> <br /> Appointed to the Library Con~nission were Mrs. Guy Beaver, Dr. R. Brown McAllister, <br /> <br />Mrs. Nancy Hefner, Mrs. Homer B. Friday, and Mr. S. R. McEachern. <br /> <br /> <br />
