RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> NHEREAS, conditions of unrest, constant turmoil and general <br />warfare have existed in Vietnam and Southeast Asia for many years{ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United States of America, in a sincere effort to <br />assist the people of South Vietnam to maintain freedom and to establish a <br />democratic form of government, has ~ommitted the armed forces of the United <br />States of America to this end; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS,~ during the long period of conflict thousands of American <br />Servicemen have been killed and wounded and many still remain as Prisoners <br />of War and Missing In Action, all to defend freedom; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the President of the United States of America has <br />constantly and tirelessly sought a peaceful and honorable end to this war, <br />through frequent negotiations and peace conferences; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS., the efforts of the President of the United States of <br />America, to establish a peaceful and honorable end to these conditions of <br />warfare, have now been realized, thereby establishing a state of peace with <br />honor~ <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, by.the power and authority vested in me as <br />Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Cabarrus County, North Carolina <br />and ~with the advice and consent of all of the members of said Board, I do <br />hereby proclaim the day of January 25~ 1973 as 'A DAY OF PRAYER, DEDICATION <br />AND MEMORIAL TO ALL THE SERVICEMEN OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES <br />OF AMERICA, TO THE COUNTLESS WHO HAVE RECEIVED INJURY, TO THOSE REMAINING AS <br />PRISONERS OF WAR AND MISSING IN ACTION; AND AS A SPECIAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE, <br />PRAYER AND MOURNING FOR THOSE AMERICAN SERVICEMEN WHO HAVE PAID THE SUPREME <br />SACRIFICE; AND AS A DAY OF PRAYER AND THANKS-GIVING TO OUR GOD THAT WE ARE <br />NOW IN A STATE OF PEACE.' and I do further commend these expressions of <br />feeling to all citizens of Cabarrus County, North Carolina. <br /> <br /> This 24th day of January , 1973. <br /> <br /> /S./~Ienn Hawfield, J~~ <br /> C~airman, Board of ~6unty Commissioners <br /> <br /> <br />
