RESOLUTION NHEREAS, conditions of unrest, constant turmoil and general warfare have existed in Vietnam and Southeast Asia for many years{ and WHEREAS, the United States of America, in a sincere effort to assist the people of South Vietnam to maintain freedom and to establish a democratic form of government, has ~ommitted the armed forces of the United States of America to this end; and WHEREAS,~ during the long period of conflict thousands of American Servicemen have been killed and wounded and many still remain as Prisoners of War and Missing In Action, all to defend freedom; and WHEREAS, the President of the United States of America has constantly and tirelessly sought a peaceful and honorable end to this war, through frequent negotiations and peace conferences; and WHEREAS., the efforts of the President of the United States of America, to establish a peaceful and honorable end to these conditions of warfare, have now been realized, thereby establishing a state of peace with honor~ NOW, THEREFORE, by.the power and authority vested in me as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Cabarrus County, North Carolina and ~with the advice and consent of all of the members of said Board, I do hereby proclaim the day of January 25~ 1973 as 'A DAY OF PRAYER, DEDICATION AND MEMORIAL TO ALL THE SERVICEMEN OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, TO THE COUNTLESS WHO HAVE RECEIVED INJURY, TO THOSE REMAINING AS PRISONERS OF WAR AND MISSING IN ACTION; AND AS A SPECIAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE, PRAYER AND MOURNING FOR THOSE AMERICAN SERVICEMEN WHO HAVE PAID THE SUPREME SACRIFICE; AND AS A DAY OF PRAYER AND THANKS-GIVING TO OUR GOD THAT WE ARE NOW IN A STATE OF PEACE.' and I do further commend these expressions of feeling to all citizens of Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
