McClary made motion to amend the budget to include
the purchase of equipment and telephones as necessary. Gallimore seconded the motion
and vote carried.

Sheriff Roberts requested that the Board contact the state representatives

and ask them to consider changing the bill G. S. 7A311, Unifonn Civil Process Fees,

so that the fee will not have to be returned if a summons cannot be issued.

Sheriff Roberts requested that the County pay the cost of the Race Relations

Course that.is required of new deputies. The residents

of Bethel have met and dete~nined that they can not apply for federal funds. Therefore
they asked the county to apply for Clean Water Bond Act funds for them. If the county
does apply, they would also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the
facility. Chairman Hawfield asked the Board to attend a meeting the next week to
answer questions and discuss the matter more fully.

McClary made motion, seconded by Gallimore and carried, to temporarily change

the milage rate to sixteen cents (16¢) for the first three hundred (300) miles and

twelve cents (12C) for all miles over three hundredS(300) effective February l, 1974.

Having no luther business, meeting adjourned.

clerk 6o the B6ard
