123 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this Board of County Commissioners has concluded <br />that the interests of this county and its citizens may be best <br />served by closing Wolf Meadow School Road and providing a new <br />access road to the Wolf Meadow Elementary School; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County School Board, at a meeting duly <br />convened and held on the 7th day of March, 1978, adopted a <br />resolution supporting the closing of the said Wolf Meadow <br />School Road, provided that suitable access is then provided <br />to the Wolf Meadow Elementary School from Roberta Mill Road <br />via State secondary road No. 1541 and an extension thereof; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, after a consideration of all relevant facts as pre- <br />sented at this meeting and the interests and the welfare of <br />the citizens of this county, it is the opinion of this Board <br />of County Commissioners that the best interests of the people <br />of this county will be served by an abandonment and closing <br />of the Wolf Meadow School Road (State Road No. 1535) in its <br />entirety (between U. S. Highway 29 and Roberta Mill Road); and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this Board of County Commissioners is of the opinion <br />that it is in the best interests of the county and its citizens <br />to request that the North Carolina Department of Transportation <br />abandon and permanently close the said Wolf Meadow School Road <br />provided that suitable access is provided to the Wolf Meadow <br />Elementary School from Roberta Mill Road via State Road No. <br />1541 and an extension thereof to the Board of Education's <br />property line; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board of County <br />Commissioners does in accordance with North Carolina General <br />Statutes Section 136-63 hereby request that the North Carolina <br />Department of Transportation abandon and permanently close <br />the Wolf Meadow School Road, also known as State Road No. 1535, <br />between U. S. Highway 29 and Roberta Mill Road (also known as <br />State Road No. 1304), such abandonment and closing of said Wolf <br />Meadow School Road to be effective upon the construction of <br />suitable access to the Wolf Meadow Elementary School utilizing <br />State Road No. 1541 from Roberta Mill Road plus an extension <br />of the said State Road No. 1541, such extension of the access <br />road to be in general conformity with a right-of-way easement <br />as described in that certain deed dated March 12, 1957 and <br />recorded in Deed Book 273 at page 46 of the Cabarrus County, <br />N. C. Public Registry; and <br /> <br />FURTHER RESOLVED, that this request for the abandonment and <br />closing of the Wolf Meadow School Road is made in accordance <br />with the provisions of North Carolina General Statutes Section <br />136-63 and is made by this Board of County Commissioners upon <br />its own motion. <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Milloway, seconded by Commissioner <br /> <br />Cook and unanimously carried, this Board recommends to the <br /> <br />Department of Transportation that they do whatever is necessary <br />to provide for the maximum safety of the children in providing an <br /> <br />access road to Wolf Meadow School. <br /> <br /> Chairman Hawfield asked if anyone who like to speak on the <br />renaming of Robinwood Drive to Red Fox Lane. Mr. W. J. Taylor <br />stated that he was a resident of this road and wondered why the <br /> <br />name was being changed. Chairman Hawfield explained that a <br />majority of the residents of this street had signed a petition <br /> <br />requesting a non-duplicate name. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Hammett, seconded by Commissioner <br /> <br />Cook and carried, the road name change from Robinwood Drive to <br /> <br /> <br />
