449 <br /> <br /> The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in regular <br />session at the Courthouse in Concord, North Carolina on Monday, October 13, <br />1980, at 9:30 A.M. <br /> Present - Chairman: Troy R. Cook <br /> Commissioners: Ralph C. Bonds <br /> Marcelle Milloway <br /> James W. Lentz <br /> J. Ray Allen <br /> The invocation was given by the Reverend Robert L. Sessum of All Saints <br />Episcopal Church. <br /> There being no additions or corrections to the minutes of September 8 and <br />15, 1980, they were approved as written. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Bonds and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the abandonment of the remaining portion <br />of 883 feet of Jennie Linn Drive (SR #2190) by the North Carolina Department of <br />Transportation. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Milloway, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the following additions to the state <br />road system and authorized the use of $4,000.00 in Secondary Road Funds to <br />improve Abilene Road. <br /> <br />Sheridan Drive <br />Primrose Lane <br />Timber Ridge Road <br /> <br />Ferncliff Drive <br />Friendly Avenue <br />Abilene Road <br /> <br /> The Board voted unanimously to set a public hearing for 7:00 P.M. on <br />November 10, 1980 for the following road name changes. <br /> <br />Unnamed to Plyler Road <br />Unnamed to Moss Drive <br />Unnamed to Sybbie Street <br />Unnamed to Knox Street <br />Unnamed to Trails End <br />Unnamed to Ponderosa Lane <br />Briarwood Circle to Amhurst Circle <br />Timber Lane to Walden Lane <br />Pinedale Lane to Forsythe Lane <br />North Drive to Troxler Circle <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Allen, seconded by Commissioner Bonds and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the contract between Cabarrus County <br />and the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Community Develop- <br />ment for the provision of planning services and appropriated $3,000.00 from <br />the Commissioners' Contingency Fund to the Planning Department budget as the <br />local share of the 701 Planning Grant totaling $10,640.00 of which $5,600.00 <br />is State funded. <br /> Mr. Kenneth Hinson, district ranger, was present to answer questions <br />regarding the proposed position of Assistant County Ranger for Cabarrus County. <br />In reviewing the process by which an assistant ranger would be hired, Mr. Hinson <br />explained that the applicant selected for this position would be subject to <br />final approval by the Board. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Milloway, seconded by Commissioner Bonds and <br />unanimously carried, the Board authorized the position of Assistant County <br />Ranger for Cabarrus County effective November 1, 1980. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Milloway, seconded by Commissioner Bonds and <br />unanimously carried, the Board appropriated $3,908.00 from the Commissioners' <br />Contingency Fund to the forestry budget as the County's share of funds for the <br />position of Assistant County Ranger effective November 1, 1980 through June 30, <br />1981. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Allen and <br />unanimously carried, the Board by resolution declared ten (10) voting booths <br />and twelve (12) ballot boxes to be surplus property and authorized the Board of <br />Elections to sell these items to Moore County for $606.00. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Bonds, seconded by Commissioner Allen and <br /> unanimously carried, the Board tabled action on a 'eh~ahge in policy for the pasnnent <br /> of expenses for the return' of fugitive miSdemeanant probationers until further <br /> study. <br /> Chairman Cook stated that this was the day and hour scheduled for a public <br /> hearing for the naming of an unnamed road to Benfield Drive and asked if anyone <br /> were present who wished to speak for or against this road name. <br /> <br /> <br />
