B. Roberts reported that sample uniforms submitted by both
uniform companies were acceptable, but stated there was a question as to the
date the alternate wash and wear trousers would be available from Stinnette
Uniform Sales. He advised the Board of possible difficulty in obtaining
uniforms when needed from Stinnette Uniform Sales due to the company's
location in Greensboro which will make it necessary for the uniforms to be
delivered to the County. Sheriff Roberts also recommended that law enforce-
ment personnel be given the option of choosing either the year round trousers
or the wash and wear trousers.
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Payne and
unanimously carried, the Board awarded the law enforcement uniform contract
for 1981-82 to the low bidder, Stinnette Uniform Sales, Inc., and instructed
the County Manager and Sheriff Roberts to contact Stinnette Uniform Sales
to determine if that company can supply the uniforms as the County needs them
in the quantity and type of fabric. If Stinnette Uniform Sales, Inc. cannot
meet the uniform requirements, the Board authorized the County Manager and
Sheriff Roberts to purchase the law enforcement uniforms from Hub Uniform
Company. The Board also agreed for the law enforcement personnel to have
the option of selecting either the year round trousers or the alternate wash
and wear trousers.
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and
unanimously carried, the Board denied the request by Mr. Charles Norris to
amend the Ordinance Regulating Places of Amusement to lower the minimum
age to 15½ years and to extend the hours of operation.
Commissioner Cook, representative on the Steering Committee for the
proposed Certified Development Corporation to be established by the Centralina
Council of Governments, reviewed the Small Business Administration loan
program proposal to provide long-term, lower interest loans to existing
businesses. He advised the Board that each Board of Commissioners in the
region was requested to adopt a resolution authorizing the Centralina
Council of Governments to establish a Certified Development Corporation
under the Small Business Administration Program and to appoint a repre-
sentative from banking and finance and a representative of the Chamber of
Commerce to serve on the Board of the corporation.
