233

Commissioner Barnhardt reported that he had attended a Georgeville
Town Meeting where he had been asked to report to the Board of Commissioners
that the people in that area are willing to pay their fair share of tax
for water and sewer in the county and are in favor of the completion of
the watershed program. He also reported that persons at the meeting had
expressed displeasure with the annexation plans of the Philip Morris facility
by the City of Concord before the plant was in production. According to
Commissioner Barnhardt, persons in Georgeville believe that this action
by the City of Concord will keep other industries from locating in
Cabarrus County.
Commissioner Payne reported that members of the Planning Board were
receiving calls concerning burned out housing in the County and the need
for the demolition of these structures, Commissioner Lentz reported that
the Building Inspection Department had encountered legal problems in
establishing a procedure for the demolition of dilapidated structures. He
stated that the Department was now making progress and that bids were expected
in the very near future for the demolition of six structures in the Silver-
hill Community. During discussion of this matter, it was noted that
citizens concerned with dilapidated housing in their community should contact
the Building Inspection Department.
Chairman Nash announced that the proposed meeting regarding water
and sewer had been postponed indefinitely.
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and
unanimously carried, the meeting was adjourned until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday,
January 20, 1983.

Clerk to the Board
