257 <br /> <br /> Chairman Nash presented the Public Service Resolution to Mr. Robert M. <br />Melton, General Manager of Vision Cable of Metrolina. <br /> Mr. Robert M. Melton of Vision Cable of Metrolina reviewed the request <br />to increase the monthly rate for "Metro Service" for the first television <br />from $2.50 per month to $3.50 per month and to increase the monthly fee for <br />additional sets from $1.00 per month to $1.50 per month. He advised the <br />Board that closed caption decoders were now available at a rental rate of <br />$6.00 per month. <br /> During review of the rate increase request, Commissioner Barnhardt <br />stated the need for Vision Cable to provide the County a report on the <br />percentage of return on investment before the rate increase could be approved. <br />Commissioner Milloway stated that Vision Cable should provide the same <br />financial information as is required from the solid waste franchise haulers <br />when a rate increase request is presented to the Board. Commissioner Payne <br />expressed concern that an increase of fees for Vision Cable would be providing <br />additional funding for the renovation of the Old Courthouse. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Lentz <br />with Commissioners Payne and Lentz and Chairman Nash voting for and <br />Commissioners Barnhardt and Milloway voting against, the Board accepted <br />the recommendation o.f Vision Cable of Metrolina to increase the monthly <br />rate for "Metro Service" for the first television from $2.50 to $3.50 per <br />month and to increase the monthly rate for each additional set from $1.00 <br />to $1.50 per month. The revised rate structure for Vision Cable of <br />Metrolina is as follows. <br /> <br />Residential Installation Fees: <br /> <br />First TV $15.00 <br />Additional TV $10.00 <br />FM $10.00 <br />Relocate $10.00 <br />Reconnect $10.00 <br />Transfer $10.00 <br />Pay TV.(after initial installation) $10.95 <br /> <br />Residential Monthly Fees: <br /> <br />Basic Service (Ch 2 - 13) <br /> <br />First TV $ 6.50 <br />Additional TV $ 1.50 <br />FM $ 1.50 <br /> <br />METRO SERVICE (14 optional channels) <br /> <br />First TV $ 3.50 <br />Additional TV $ 1.50 <br /> <br />Premium (Pay) TV Services (Optional): <br />Home Box Office <br />Cinemax <br />HBO & Cinemax in combination <br />Home Theater Network Plus <br /> <br />$ 9.00 <br />$ 9.00 <br />$16.50 <br />$ 5.95 <br /> <br />Miscellaneous: <br />Digital Remote Control Converter $ 4.00 <br />Full Cable Ready TV Discount ($ 1.00) <br />Pay TV Channel Lockout (one time charge)$10.O0 <br />Closed Caption Decoder Monthly Rental $ 6.00 <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Lentz and <br />unanimously carried, the Board deferred consideration of Southern Piedmont <br />Health Systems Agency appointments and nominations until the next meeting. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Milloway, seconded by Commissioner Lentz <br />and unanimously carried, the Board deferred consideration of the County <br />Manager's recommendation for the sale of 13 acres of County property located <br />on the northern side of Cabarrus Avenue parallel to Southern Railroad. <br />Additional information is to be obtained pertaining to the amount of the <br />property located in the flood plain and any need the County might have for <br />this property in the future. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Payne, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt <br />and unanimously carried, the Board authorized Pauline C. Leigh to purchase <br />through the County, Retirement Service Credit which she had voluntarily <br />withdrawn for the years beginning July, 1949, through September, 1958. <br />It shall be understood that she will pay both the employee and employer <br />share of this credit. <br /> <br /> <br />
