361 <br /> <br /> Commissioner Lentz nominated Mr. F. A. Rankin, Jr., for reappointment <br />to the Cabarrus County Planning Board. Commissioner Barnhardt nominated <br />Mr. Manuel Kiser for appointment to the Planning Board, and Commissioner <br />Milloway nominated Mr. Gene Holbrooks. Commissioner Payne nominated Mr. Ed <br />Godsey for appointment, but withdrew his name prior to the voting for this <br />position on the Planning Board. Voting was as follows. <br /> <br />Voting for Mr. Holbrooks - Commissioner Milloway <br />Voting for Mr. Kiser - Commissioner Barnhardt <br />Voting for Mr. Rankin - Commissioners Payne and Lentz and <br /> Chairman Nash <br /> <br /> Mr. F. A. Rankin, Jr., was reappointed to the Cabarrus County Planning <br />Board for a three-year term ending August 31, 1986. <br /> Commissioner Payne nominated Mr. Ed Godsey for appointment to the <br />position on the Planning Board held by Ms. Cynthia Bostick, who was in- <br />eligible for reappointment under the provisions of the appointment policy <br />adopted by the Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Milloway nominated <br />Mr. Gene Holbrooks for appointment to this position, and Commissioner <br />Barnhardt nominated Mr. Manuel Kiser for appointment. Voting was as follows. <br /> <br />Voting for Mr. Kiser - <br />Voting for Mr. Holbrooks - <br />Voting for Mr. Godsey - <br /> <br />Commissioner Barnhardt <br />Commissioner Milloway <br />Commissioners Payne and Lentz and <br />Chairman Nash <br /> <br /> Mr. Ed Godsey was appointed to the Cabarrus County Planning Board <br />for a three-year term ending August 31,. 1986. <br /> The Board reviewed a letter from Dr. Joseph Fries, Cabarrus County <br />School Superintendent, stating the support of the Board of Education for <br />the one-half percent (1/2%) supplemental sales tax. Chairman Nash also <br />presented to the Board a resolution adopted by the City Council of the <br />City of Concord supporting the levy of the one-half percent (1/2%) local <br />option sales tax. Commissioner Lentz reported that he had spoken with <br />Mayor Ralph Austin of the Town of Mt. Pleasant and Mayor Martha Melvin <br />of the Town of Harrisburg and each had expressed support of the one-half <br />percent (1/2%) local option sales tax. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Lentz, seconded by Commissioner Payne <br />with Commissioners Lentz and Payne and Chairman Nash voting for and <br />Commissioners Barnhardt and Milloway voting against, the Board set a <br />public hearing for 7:00 P.M. on August 31, 1983, to consider the levy of <br />the one-half percent (1/2%) supplemental local government sales and use <br />tax and directed that the following notice of public hearing be published. <br /> <br /> NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING <br /> TO CONSIDER <br />LEVY OF 1/2% SUPPLEMENTAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT SALES AND USE TAX <br /> <br /> NOTICE is hereby given that the Board of Commissioners of Cabarrus <br />County will hold a public hearing to consider the levy of a one-half <br />percent (1/2%) supplemental local government sales and use tax, at the <br />following time, date and place. <br /> <br />7:00 P.M. <br /> <br />August 31, 1983 <br /> <br />Commissioners' Meeting Room. <br />Cabarrus County Courthouse <br /> Concord, North Carolina <br /> <br /> Ail interested citizens have the right to be heard and are invited <br />to attend and present their views to the Board of Commissioners as to <br />whether the proposed tax is wise or unwise; whether the tax should or <br />should not be levied; whether local conditions require the imposition of <br />the tax; whether other means of taxation available to the county and <br />municipalities within the county would be more equitable; and any other <br />reasons for or against the levy of a one-half percent (1/.2%)supplemental <br />local government sales and use tax as an added source of revenue for <br />Cabarrus County and the cities and towns within the county. <br /> <br />(Published by order of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners) <br /> <br />/s/ Frankie F.
