364 <br /> <br /> Mr. J. William Hillhouse, Jr., President of the Kannapolis Chamber of <br />Commerce, presented the following Resolution adopted by the Chamber. <br /> <br />KANNAPOLIS CHAMBER OF CO~MERCE <br />KANNAPOLIS, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina State Legislature has ratified House Bill <br /> No. 426 allowing the imposition of a one-half cent sales tax <br /> which revenue will be redistributed to North Carolina counties on <br /> a basis of population; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the belief of the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce that <br /> such sales tax revenue will contribute approximately two million <br /> dollars to Cabarrus County government, which funds will be used <br /> for county improvement projects, specifically including capital <br /> improvement of schools and county water and sewer systems; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the further belief of the Kannapoiis. Chamber of Commerce <br /> that such sales tax will promote and enhance theeconomic growth <br /> and development and generally improve the quality of life for all <br /> Cabarrus County residents. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce, <br /> Inc., Kannapolis, North Carolina, that the Cabarrus County Board <br /> of Commissioners be and hereby is informed of the support of said <br /> Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce for the immediate adoption and <br /> implementation of the one-half cent sales tax. <br /> <br />This 31st day of August, 1983. <br /> <br />KANNAPOLIS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, INC. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />/s/ J. Loving, Chairman of the Cabarrus County Board of Education, <br />presented the following Resolution adopted by the Board of Education. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County school system has identified numerous <br />capital outlay needs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County school system is fiscally dependent <br />upon the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners for capital outlay needs; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina has approved the local option <br />one-half cent sales tax to be used for school capital expenditure needs <br />and other programs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Board of Education at'its regular meeting <br />on August 2, 1983, unanimously agreed that the one-half cent local option <br />sales tax would provide funds annually to meet a portion of the school <br />capital outlay needs; and <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED THAT the Cabarrus County Board <br />of Education does hereby request that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners levy the additional one-half cent local option sales tax <br />at this time, or as soon as practical. <br /> <br /> <br />
