113 <br /> <br />(c) Immediate family is defined for the purpose of this section <br /> as spouse, mother, father, guardian, children, sister, brother, <br /> grandparents, grandchildren plus the various combinations of <br /> half, step, in-law, and adopted relationships that can be <br /> derived from those named. <br />(d) The Board of Commissioners shall approve the appointment by <br /> the Sheriff or the register of deeds of a relative by blood <br /> or marriage of nearer kinship than first cousin as required <br /> by Chapter 153A-103 (1) of the North Carolina General Statutes. <br /> <br />ARTICLE VI. LEAVES OF ABSENCE <br /> <br />Section 1. Holidays <br /> <br /> The following days and such other days as the commissioners may <br />designate are holidays with pay for employees and officers of the county <br />working the basic work week of forty (40) hours. <br /> <br />New Year's Day <br />Easter Monday <br />Memorial Day <br />Independence Day <br />Labor Day <br /> <br />Veteran's Day (Nov. 11) <br />Thanksgiving Day <br />Day after Thanksgiving <br />Christmas--Two (2) or three (3) <br />workdays (See following Christmas <br />Holiday schedule) <br /> <br /> When a holiday other than Christmas Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, <br />Monday shall be observed as a holiday. <br /> <br /> If a holiday as designated by the County Personnel Ordinance falls on <br />a day other than Monday and is designated Nationally to be observed on a <br />Monday, then the County policy is amended to observe that holiday on a <br />Monday. <br /> <br />When Christmas Day Falls On <br /> <br />Sunday <br />Monday <br />Tuesday <br />Wednesday <br />Thursday <br />Friday <br />Saturday <br /> <br />The County Observes <br />Friday and Monday <br />Monday and Tuesday <br />Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday <br />Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday <br />Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday <br />Thursday and Friday <br />Friday and Monday <br /> <br /> Holiday leave earned by permanent employees having a work week with <br />fewer hours than the basic work week shall be determined in accordance with <br />the formula set forth in Section 19 of this article. <br /> <br /> In order to be eligible for holiday pay, a temporary county employee <br />must have worked a full regularly scheduled workday before and after the <br />holiday, unless excused by the county manager. <br /> <br />Section 2. Effect of Work on Holidays or Unscheduled Workdays on Other <br /> Types of Paid Leave <br /> <br /> Regular holidays or unscheduled workdays which occur during a vacation, <br />sick or other paid leave period of any officer or employee of the county <br />shall not be charged as vacation, sick or other leave. <br /> <br />Section 3. Holiday - When Work Required <br /> <br /> Employees required to perform work on regularly scheduled holidays may <br />be granted compensatory time off or paid at their hourly rate for the hours <br />actually worked, in addition to any holiday pay to which they may be <br />entitled. Compensatory time shall be granted whenever feasible and taken <br />within three (3) months from the time it is earned. <br /> <br />Section 4. Vacation Leave <br /> <br /> Vacation leave should be for rest and relaxation, but may be used <br />for medical reasons when sick leave is exhausted and for absences due to <br />adverse weather conditions. <br /> <br /> <br />
