114 <br /> <br />Section 5. Vacation Leave - Probationary Employees <br /> <br /> Employees serving a probationary period following initial appointment <br />may accumulate vacation leave but shall not be permitted to take vacation <br />leave during the probationary period unless the denial of such leave will <br />create an unusual hardship. Vacation leave may be taken during this period <br />only with the prior approval of the appointing authority. Law enforcement <br />officers shall be allowed to take accumulated vacation leave after six (6) <br />months of service. <br /> <br /> Employees serving a probationary period following a promotion shall <br />continue to receive all benefits provided in accordance with this policy <br />and under other supplementary rules and regulations. <br /> <br />Section 6. Vacation Leave - Manner of Accumulation <br /> <br /> Anniversary date of employment shall be used for determining earned <br />vacation. Any employee working the basic workweek shall earn vacation leave <br />at the following rates: <br /> <br />Years of Aggregate <br /> Service <br /> <br />(a) Less than 2 years <br /> <br />Hours Earned <br />Per Completed <br /> Month <br /> <br />Hours Earned <br />Per Completed <br /> Year <br /> <br />Regular EMS Regular EMS <br />6 hrs. 10 hrs. 80 hrs. 120 hrs <br />40 Min. <br /> <br />(b) 2 but less than 5 8 hrs. <br /> years <br /> <br />12 hrs. 96 hrs. 144 hrs <br /> <br />(c) 5 but less than <br /> 10 years <br /> <br />10 hrs. 15 hrs. 120 hrs. 180 hrs <br /> <br />(d) 10 years but less <br /> than 15 years <br /> <br />12 hrs. 18 hrs. 144 hrs. 216 hrs <br /> <br />(e) 15 years but less <br /> than 20 years <br /> <br />14 hrs. 21 hrs. 168 hrs. 251 hrs <br /> <br />(f) 20 years or more <br /> <br />16 hrs. 24 hrs. 192 hrs. 287 hrs <br /> <br />Note: For all personnel except EMS a completed year is 2080 hours. For <br /> EMS personnel a completed year is 2928 hours. <br /> <br /> Vacation leave earned by employees having a workweek with fewer hours <br />than the basic work week shall be determined in accordance with the formula <br />set forth in Section 19 of this article. <br /> <br />Section 7. Vacation Leave - Maximum Accumulation <br /> <br /> Vacation leave may accumulate to a maximum of 240 hours (360 hours for <br />emergency medical service personnel). When the maximum has been accumulated, <br />no additional vacation leave shall be earned until some of the accrued leave <br />is taken. <br /> <br />Section 8. Vacation Leave - Manner of Taking Leave <br /> <br /> Vacation leave may be taken as earned by a permanent employee subject to <br />the approval of the supervisor, with the exception that all department heads <br />and other employees so designated by the county manager must take at least <br />five (5) consecutive work days of accrued vacation leave per calendar year. <br /> <br />Section 9. Vacation Leave - Previous Leave Credit <br /> <br /> Vacation leave credit accumulated by each employee as of the adoption of <br />this personnel administration policy shall be retained as of the effective <br />date of this policy. <br /> <br /> <br />
