240

Chairman Lentz called a special meeting of the Board of Commissioners
for 6:45 P.M. on Monday, June 3, 1985, at Holiday Inn in Concord, North
Carolina, to meet with the Airport Committee of the Concord/Cabarrus County
Chamber of Commerce and the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce regarding the
establishment of an airport in Cabarrus County. Also, Chairman Lentz called
a special meeting for 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 4, 1985, at Concord City
Hall to discuss contractual agreements with the Concord Board of Light and
Water Commissioners. He also announced that the Board would have dinner
with the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission on
June 6, 1985, at Frank Liske Park. In addition, Chairman Lentz set a
meeting for 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 10, 1985, to continue review of the
proposed 1985-86 budget.
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Hamby, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt
with Commissioners Hamby, Barnhardt, and Upright voting for and commissioner
Payne and Chairman Lentz voting against, the Board agreed to increase the
Cabarrus County and Kannapolis Schools Current Expense appropriation by
nine percent (9%) over the current year budget. This would result in an
approximate one percent (1%) decrease from the $6,468,810.00 recommended
by the County Manager.
UPON MOTION of Commissioner Hamby, seconded by Commissioner Barnhardt
with Commissioners Hamby, Barnhardt, and Upright voting for and Commissioner
Payne and Chairman Lentz voting against, the Board set the Cabarrus County
and Kannapolis Schools Capital Outlay appropriation at the current year
appropriation plus twelve percent (12%). This would result in a decrease
of approximately $32,800.00 from the $660,000.00 recommended by the
County Manager.
The substitute motion by Chairman Lentz and seconded by Commissioner
Payne to delay the vote on the Schools budget until June 10, 1985, failed
with Chairman Lentz and Commissioner Payne voting for and Commissioners
Hamby, Barnhardt, and Upright voting against.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
adjourned.

Clerk to the Board
