According to Mr. Barrow's letter, this project is planned to <br />honor the state flower of North Carolina by planting 140,000 dogwood trees along <br />the 32-mile beltline around the capital city at an estimated cost of <br />$200,000.00. <br /> The motion by Commissioner Hamby and seconded by Commissioner Moss to deny <br />the request for Cabarrus County to contribute funds for the planting of trees <br />in Wake Coumty failed by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Voting for: Commissioners Hamby and Moss <br /> Voting against: Chairman Lentz and Commissioners Melvin and Simmons <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Simmons, seconded by Chairman Lentz with <br />Commissioners Simmons and Melvin and Chairman Lentz voting for and Commissioners <br />Hamby and Mo~ss voting against, the Board agreed to contribute two cents for each <br />resident of Cabarrus County to the Dogwood Fund for the planting of 140,000 <br />dogwood trees along the beltline around Raleigh. The County's participation in <br />this project is contingent upon the following conditions: (1) At least 50 <br />percent of the counties in North Carolina participate in the project; and (2) <br />The project is determined to be for a public purpose. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Simmons, seconded by Chairman Lentz and <br />unanimously carried, the Board appointed Ms. Cara Early Vanhoy, Income <br />Maintenance Caseworker at the Department of Social Services, as the community's <br />liaison to the National Organization on Disability. <br /> Chairman Lentz recessed the meeting at 6:45 P.M. until the conclusion of <br />the meeting of the Water and Sewer District of Cabarrus County. <br /> Chairman Lentz reconvened the meeting of the Board of Commissioners. <br /> The following bids were received on November 30, 1989 for the removal <br />and/or demollition of residential housing units with the Coddle Creek Reservoir <br />project limits declared surplus property by Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Structure No, 1 - D.
